Shelter
Short-order cook Zack (Trevor Wright) skateboards, surfs, babysits, and dreams of attending Caltech to be an artist. His sleepy life in a Southern California coast town, where everyone calls you “dude,” is interrupted when hot-bodied, flashy Shaun (Brad Rowe) arrives and their surfing and frisbee days end up between the sheets. But Zack is terrified at discovering he’s homosexual, and he decides to back off. Have you seen this Coming Out story before? Yes, yes, for 30 years, and there’s not one new nuance in Jonah Markowitz’s indie film to explain why the screenplay was let out of the closet.
