A Preview Of Tonight's MSNBC Democratic Debate

  • LorenzoJennifer said:

Edwards needs to revive his "two Anericas" rhetoric from 2004 and work that into his working-class/middle-class sales pitch, noting his union support and endorsements. As someone said to Clinton in 1992, "it's the economy, stupid."  He is very much the outsider with everything to lose.  Out of office since January 2005 from having served one US Senate term, this may well be his last chance.   He's well-advised to curry favor with the other candidates, perhaps making him the second choice they make into their first choice when voting. The Iowa and  Nevada caucuses depend on warm bodies and talking heads showing up.

Obama's racial heritage alone makes him a unique candidate. Barack need to come forward with specifics.  Agree that his targeting Hillary is a mistake.  He's not running as the anti-Clinton.  He's running as the pro-Obama.  He's used "Act One" to introduce and ingratiate himself with the voting public.  "Act II" is well along and he needs to command the stage and deliver his lines.  Charisma, as John Edwards knows, can be very fickle and may exit during Intermission.  Barack needs a metaphor fit for a competitive and fighting spirit - instead of "Act Two", make it the second inning of a baseball game, the second quarter of a football or basketball game or second period of a hockey game.
