Ads Classified: The Edwards YouTube Hair Ad

We mentioned last night the terrific YouTube ad from the debate from the Edwards camp which finally responds to all the controversy about his $400 haircut. It's available here.
As we said then, if we were running the Edwards campaign, we'd put it up on the air.

John Edwards has taken a derisive comment about his hair and spun it into a commercial that combines humor and serious commentary. Thinkin' back to 1992, a weekly newsie headlined "space aliens" endorsing Bill Clinton's candidacy. Next day's news story had Clinton holding the paper and laughing along with someone else. A sense of humor seems lacking in all the candidates - Democrat or Republican - except for Richardson's resume/interview ad.  A recent New York news story had Bill campaigning in an exclusive women's health club for Hillary (yes!).  All the club members looked gorgeous and one asked Bill about Hill, "Can't she lighten up a little?"  Bill smiled broadly. Humor can be used to defuse a harsh, negative ad and it's unfortunate that the ability to chuckle-and-counter is, as usual, in short supply.
