Weekly Playlist #4: Deep Heaven Now 6 edition with Boom Said Thunder, Moontowers, 28 Degrees Taurus, Ghost Box Orchestra

DEEP HEAVEN NOW, our city’s resurrected bi-annual, two-day, two-stage ambient/whatever-gaze music festival, returns this weekend to Union Square in Somerville, its sixth installment taking over the Friday and Saturday slates at Precinct and P.A.’s Lounge in another sonic spin of noisy goodness. Of course, we could go on and on about this weekend's sterling crop of bands, from psych misfits Ringo Deathstarr (Texas), to the swirling pop of Gospel Gossip (Minnesota), to the tripped-out Love Culture (Ohio), the shaken-up/shaken-down Vandelles' (NYC), who just wrapped up a successful run of tour dates last month with their heroes the Jesus & Mary Chain. But Boston and its surrounding region is again fully-repped in this latest Deep Heaven Now, and so this week's Playlist raises a glass or 12 to two fast-risers and two veterans of our ever-blossoming psych rock scene.

The forceful imprint-rock of "Shadow," by BOOM SAID THUNDER, pictured above, kicks things off with maximum ruffage carried by the blistering vocals of Abby Bickel before we abruptly shift gears and go lo-fi with MOONTOWERS' desert-road demo for the dusty "Sunbeam." The forever-gazing 28 DEGREES TAURUS, which features the fest's chief organizer Jinsen Liu, provides a new track in the haunting "Star Crossed," while the immortal GHOST BOX ORCHESTRA takes us home with nearly seven minutes of reverby, droning, psychedelic awesomeness on "Dude We're All One Dude." That's some shit we can really get behind.
