It warms my winter soul when anything that's worthwhile in rap catches some buzz in its sail. So I'm ecstatic that the Allston-spawned Grey Sky Appeal is getting wet and sloppy love from hip-hop fans and hipster dweebs everywhere, and that they're taking extra steps to match their sound with avant-garde videos. In short, their quality control is outstanding.

Executed by the redoubtable Loroto gang, this new GSA vid for “Hunt & Gather” is a beautiful mess that should make any year-end list of grimiest gems. Frequent Phoenix collaborators Nick Curran and Addison Post harness the authentic skill-driven energy that makes Grey Sky so appealing and, as importantly, they do it in a way to keep hardcore and eclectic heads tuned in.

As GSA migrates to New York, I've no doubt that they'll continue their march out of obscurity and into the new rap zeitgeist, which they'll no doubt salt, pepper, and scramble. With visuals like this – packing both a dark underground aesthetic and a subversive sense of humor – their buzz might one day even catch up to their talent.
