[tonight] Tornado relief benefit @ Great Scott: OldJack, The Wandas, Larcenist
With all the global news of the past few weeks -- from birthers to bin Laden to the Royal Dreading, to borrow a quip from Morrissey -- it’s easy to forget that the southern part of our fair country is in shambles. The destruction created by tornadoes last month is still being felt in the southern region of the US. With a death toll of nearly 300, nearly two-thirds in Alabama alone, the devastation across six states will be long felt by those who lost their loved ones, homes, community, and overall sense of hope.
So Boston decided to do something about it, both as a reminder that these are still people in need and to raise money for the Red Cross relief efforts. Tonight at Great Scott, the Boston Phoenix teams up with locally-based music blogs Ryan’s Smashing Life and Sleepover Shows (winner of Best Music Blog in our Best 2011 poll) to present a three-band bill with a bit of Americana flair.
Join us as we rock out with the spirited folk-country of LARCENIST, the soulful rock of THE WANDAS, and rising Boston alt-Americana gang OLDJACK, which warms up tonight before hitting the Lizard Lounge stage on Saturday for the Rationales album-release party. We’ve been so amped up on OldJack since their unprecedented wild-card run in last month’s Rock And Roll Rumble, we not only asked them to be a part of tonight’s benefit, but also designated 2011 Song-of-the-Year-contender “Chorus Line” as our Mp3 of the Week in this Thursday’s edition, giving an added assist to their weekend agenda in Cambridge.
But before all that arrives, we hope to see you this evening in Allston. Minimum donation is $8, it’s an 18-plus show, and doors are at 9pm.
All proceeds from the gig go to the American Red Cross for Tornado Relief.
