UPDATED: Dropkick Murphys stand with Wisconsin labor protestors

UPDATE: The previous headline on this post mistakenly suggested that Dropkick Murphys were performing at the Wisconsin labor rallies on Friday. They are not. The band will be performing a long-scheduled show on Friday following a Milwaukee Admirals/Chicago Wolves game. Sorry for the confusion. SEND PIZZA. Also: updated the below with information from a press release issued this afternoon.

DROPKICK MURPHYS have a long history of putting their money where there mouths are when it comes to their support of organized labor -- not for nothing did they call their debut EP Boys on the Docks. This morning, on the eve of their new album Going Out In Style, they've just announced that they're headed to Wisconsin to take part in the largest US pro-labor demonstrations in a generation. By strange coincidence, the band was scheduled to be in Wisconsin on Friday anyway. From a blog post released this morning:

Hey Everyone the Dropkick Murphys would like to take a moment to acknowledge the struggles of the working people of Wisconsin and to pledge our support and solidarity by releasing the song “Take Em Down” from our upcoming album. We think it’s appropriate at the moment and hope you like it.

We have also created a limited edition “Take ‘Em Down” t-shirt which will be available for sale shortly at www.dropkickmurphys.com/merch/#takeemdown. Proceeds from the “Take ‘Em Down” t-shirt sales will benefit Workers’ Rights Emergency Response Fund (https://afl.salsalabs.com/o/4002/wi-response). Messages of support can also be sent to those fighting for their rights in Wisconsin via this link: //action.seiu.org/page/s/wisconsin?via=ta-home

We’ll see you in Wisconsin in a few days,

The Dropkick Murphys Stand With Wisconsin !!!!!

You can listen to the song streaming here. "In addition," according to a press release from the band's publicist, "as part of their way of showing solidarity with this movement, Dropkick Murphys are working with the AFL-CIO, SEIU (Service Employees International Union) and AFSCME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees) and have made the song available to be played at solidarity rallies across the country." Stay tuned: Dropkick Murphys fans will probably want to pick up a copy of the Phoenix that lands on newstands and inboxes on Thursday. Just sayin'. This is up now:
