Golden Sounds: Cable Access is the new No Wave?
Behold: below, some greatest hits from "GOLDEN SOUNDS," the Brookline Access Television series run by BATV programming coordinator and Tunnel of Love guitarist ANDY MCBAIN. If Tunnel of Love didn't blow your pussy out . . . well, this will. We had the pleasure of taking in a taping of the show last night at BATV's brand-new, $1.9 million studio and can report that although the gear is amazing (new HD cameras, brand-new Mac/Final Cut editing suites, Sannheiser headphones, a fucking pizza budget!), the production values are basement show punk rock: amps turned up to 11, pipe the singer through Dan Shea's PA, clap your hands and let 'er rip. Shot by an all-volunteer crew in a studio splattered with avant-garde video projections, interspersed with pornographic palindromes written by the filmmaker and illustrator D.L. Polonsky, and edited in mondo-bizarro mode by McBain, the show is one of the weirdest and most atrociously beautiful things in local music right now.
