Boston rock's 2010 in review

Locals scene and heard
By MICHAEL MAROTTA  |  December 22, 2010

January
Six days into the New Year, the biggest band to come out of Boston since the Pixies, Passion Pit, hold court at the House of Blues. But the local openers are a sign of the year to come: dance-pop kids Yes Giantess are about to release bombastic single "The Ruins," and savvy indie co-eds Dirty Dishes fine-tune in basements and clubs, priming themselves for a breakout 2011. Weeks later at T.T. the Bear's, Spirit Kid's homonymous retro-modern jangle-pop debut shows off Emeen Z's songwriting class, and Bad Rabbits circulate their Stick Up Kids EP for free online, as they prepare for a 2010 local takeover that's bound to go national in the coming year.
