An exceedingly bizarre sequence of events transpired this past week — the parents of two different playoff-competing NBA players were arrested in separate incidents, one on each coast. One of those incidents involved the stepfather of local Boston Celtics bench-warmer Marquis Daniels, who until recently seemed destined to be best known as the guy whose recent uninspiring play single-handedly revived the moribund career of fellow bricklayer Tony Allen.
The Marquis Daniels experience has been a bit of a mystery for Celtics fans. Before he came to Boston, he was considered one of the tougher and grittier reserves in the league, a 6-6 athlete who could play three positions but had a bit of a durability problem. True to form, Daniels incurred his annual serious injury in the early winter, and didn’t give the Celtics much when he returned — in fact, his benching in favor of Allen became one of the key decisions leading to the team’s current improbable playoff run.
Thus Daniels, who grew up in the Orlando area, was on the pine for all of the Celtics’ Eastern Conference Finals Game 2 performance against the Orlando Magic last week. At the tail end of that game, Daniels’s stepfather, 55-year-old Willie Buie, got into an altercation in the stands. Police came in to intervene. It’s unclear what started the ruckus, but when police arrived, Buie reportedly said, “I’m not going — fuck you!” Several other policemen then showed up and Buie was escorted out of the arena to a corridor near the building’s security office. When cops tried to handcuff him, he apparently resisted so much that they couldn’t get the job done — leading to the inevitable use of a Taser. Police apparently held the thing up to his back and zapped him for five whole seconds before he relented and was restrained. He was charged with resisting arrest with violence.
Turns out Buie has quite a record — including a second-degree murder charge — and has served 11 years in prison. Thanks to the inevitable surfacing of the whole incident on video via TMZ, you can now see the guy with two cops basically sitting on his back while they’re cuffing him. Who doesn’t love the Internet age?

Two days before the Buie incident, Carrie Mae Stoudemire, the mother of Phoenix Suns star Amar’e Stoudemire, got arrested after a vaguely similar belligerent outburst in the company of police.
This woman is no joke. She’s got a giant pumpkin-colored hairdo and beet-red lipstick visible from space — your basic cross between Carrot Top and Luther Vandross. She’s been arrested and in jail dozens of times in the past, on charges ranging from possession to prostitution. According to news reports, she’s been in and out of Amar’e’s life. She was apparently in it last week, when she got pulled over by police for speeding and straddling a pair of lanes on the highway.
