Notes on the Dirty Truckers and the Kickbacks

The Dirty Truckers |
I’m not one to gossip, so you didn’t hear it from me, but it seems the DIRTY TRUCKERS and the KICKBACKS are getting serious. Everybody said it couldn’t work: the former, gruff Cheapish Tricky rockers hooked on licks; the latter a bit alt-er, a little bluer, probably clean of house and good in the kitchen. But a shared fondness for Paul Westerberg and beer has bridged the gap: word is they have a date at Church this Friday, September 5 (with AM STEREO. . . awkward!), and, not to get too detailed here, but they plan on releasing their new discs at the same time — right in front of everyone! Is that moving a bit fast or what?

- Spring clearance
I've seen the best music snobs of my generation destroyed by downloading — instead of savoring full albums the way one might enjoy a vintage claret, they're slamming down random shots of bands with stupid names, passing out, and blanking on what they heard the night before.
