The kickoff weekend of new local show bookers the Dreamhouse Collective was coming to a close a week ago last Monday night at Great Scott, but the walls of the Allston venue were still vibrating thanks to the grungy guitar reverb of Northamptom trio Speedy Ortiz.

Review: WFNX's Miracle on Tremont Street 2009
A quick, mildly sycophantic shout-out to the "powers that be" here in Phoenix -Land: This year's Miracle on Tremont Street was nothing short of a wicked pissah powerhouse bill. The grand old Orpheum creaked under the weight of a sold-out audience, and a pronounced feistiness prevailed .
Review: AC + PanzerBastard + AoK Suicide Forest
AoK Suicide Forest, featuring Michael Anderson (Loverless, Johnny Cremains), David Joy (Sunrunner) and Leif Sherman Curtis (Moneycastasia, ex-Conifer), have only been around since last summer and have quickly honed their blend of '70s proto-metal, psychedelia, and Japanese noise rock to a razor-sharp edge through relentless gigging.

Review: The Church at the Somerville Armory
The night's entertainment was, as they say, high concept: on the eve of their 30th anniversary, Aussie new wave lifers The Church played 23 songs, one from each of their albums, in reverse chronological order, beginning with last year's Untitled #23 and ending with 1980's self-titled debut (in the U.S., it was eventually released as Of Skins and Heart).
Changing rooms
The only big difference between the Carolina Chocolate Drops' show at the Paradise Saturday night and the one at the Somerville Theatre back in January was the venue.
