Serious lunacy

Off the Couch

Heads up for THE JESSE MINUTE (scoop a copy of Shut Up and Play pronto) headlining at Firehouse 13 on THURSDAY (the 26th) with NERVOUS INSURGENTS, NH friends GEORGIAN and BILLY RAYGUN, and a busy HANK SINATRA JR., all for just $5 at the door (401.270.1801). AS220 hosts diverse action all weekend: on FRIDAY (the 27th) it's an all-ages metal assault with PVD acts SHE RIDES and ACARIYA teaming with Ohio bands BEFORE THE EYEWALL and MOCKINGBIRD, and for some serious lunacy get back there on SATURDAY (the 28th) for HANK SINATRA JR., Warwick ska kids LEMON LIME TENNIS SHOES, 8-bit spazz-out crew MATH THE BAND, and NYC's PEELANDER-Z. Call 401.831.9327 for info on both shows. And how about the Newport Blues Cafe pulling in STEPHEN KELLOGG & THE SIXERS on SUNDAY (the 29th); tix are $12 in advance, call 401.841.5510. Looking ahead to TUESDAY (the 31st), IMADETHISMISTAKE mark their Providence return with a gig at the 201 (401.454.4581) along with THE DOWN AND OUTS, WEAK TEETH, and AT HALF MAST (SC). September, already? Head out to Doherty's East Avenue Irish Pub (401.725.1800) and catch MARK CUTLER & THE TINY STRING BAND next THURSDAY (the 2nd).

R.I.P going out to RHYTHMAFIA: founder Rob Cinami announced he has disbanded the metal-funk-rap collective (to this day I can't explain it) and plans to form a new band ("Morbid Angel meets Slayer") with members of I, Destroyer. Cinami reports they currently are looking for a bassist and vocalist.

Thank the good peeps at Anchor Brain Records for unearthing more Six Finger Satellite; the Machine Cuisine "Companion Cassette EP" (with downloadable code, of course) is now available for $8 at AnchorBrain.com. Five previously-unheard 6FS tracks (along with the full-length Machine Cuisine) are ready to sear your big, yellow Sony Walkman.
