SEXUAL PERVERSITY IN CHICAGO

Date(s): Wednesday, August 27, 2008 to Sunday, September 21, 2008
VINTAGE MAMET
Back in the mists of time, before he created The Unit and directed Ford Edge commercials, David Mamet was a twentysomething Chicago scribbler with an ear like a tape recorder. One of his earliest plays, SEXUAL PERVERSITY IN CHICAGO, enjoys a revival beginning tonight at Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater, whose artistic director, Jeff Zinn, got his start in the 1975 Off Broadway production. Brendan Hughes directs the one-act play, in which a young guy and girl try to turn a one-night-stand into true love, despite the interference of two very cynical best friends. “For all of its shock value circa 1977, it’s really a very sweet play,” says Zinn. See for yourself at WHAT’s Harbor Stage, 1 Kendrick Ave, next to the Town Pier, Wellfleet | August 27–September 21 | $29; $26 Outer Cape voters; $16 student rush, half-hour before show | 508.349.WHAT or www.what.org.
